About the Winery

Donatien Bahuaud was born in 1908 in the Nantes region and founded Maison Donatien Bahuaud in 1929 at the age of 21. He was one of the founders of the AOC Muscadet sur Lie and played a significant role in the recognition of Muscadet up until the creation of the AOC in 1936. In 1937, he bought Château Cassemichère in La Chapelle-Heulin, where Muscadet first originated in 1740. Donatien revolutionized the region with his audacity and business flair, touring the Loire Valley to find the finest appellations. He was recognized as a master in the art of wine maturing by his peers. For Donatien Bahuaud, 'winemaking on its own is not enough to create unique wines' - maturing is crucial. Today, the house continues his pioneering work, offering wines from across the Loire Valley.
