Jean-rené Batard
About the Winery
Jean-René Batard is a wine producer in Vénérand, in the Charentes region of western France. The estate produces Pineau des Charentes, a fortified aperitif wine unique to the Charentes region. Pineau des Charentes is made by blending fresh, unfermented grape juice with Cognac eau-de-vie, resulting in a sweet, aromatic wine with an alcohol content of around 17%. The Charentes' chalky soils and temperate climate are ideal for growing the grape varieties used in Pineau production, including Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Montils for whites, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot for Roses. The estate's Pineau des Charentes wines are aged in oak barrels, developing complex aromas of dried fruit, honey, and nuts.
“A Charentes producer crafting Pineau des Charentes, the region's signature fortified aperitif wine.”
