Château de La Chaize

About the Winery

Château de La Chaize is one of the most historic and largest wine estates in Beaujolais, founded in 1676 by Jean-François de la Chaize d'Aix, whose brother was confessor to King Louis XIV. The château was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and its gardens by André Le Nôtre, the same landscape architect who created the gardens of Versailles. The estate remained in the same family for over 350 years until its acquisition by the Gruy family in 2017. Spanning 450 hectares with 106 hectares of vineyards across the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie, and Morgon appellations, the estate is a classified historic monument. Under the direction of Boris Gruy (nephew of Christophe Gruy) since 2017, the estate has undergone major investment in vineyard rehabilitation and a state-of-the-art winery. The estate practices organic viticulture (certified since the 2022 vintage) and pursues ambitious sustainability goals including geothermal energy, solar panels, and carbon neutrality.
