About the Winery

Château de Mercuès is a spectacular 13th-century castle perched on a hill overlooking the Lot valley and its Cahors vineyards. Formerly the summer residence of the Count-Bishops of Cahors, the castle played a role during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion. In 1983, Georges Vigouroux, a Cahors winemaker, acquired the property and undertook extensive reconstruction to restore its nobility and earn it a place among Relais & Châteaux. Today, the castle offers 24 rooms and 6 suites with views over the vineyard or gardens, plus two restaurants led by Chef Julien Poisot: a bistronomic restaurant and a gastronomic restaurant that has earned an international reputation for dishes featuring black truffles, saffron, and Quercy lamb. The estate produces Malbec wines from its own vineyards.
