Sarl catherine et pierre Breton
About the Winery
Domaine Catherine et Pierre Breton is an iconic natural wine estate in the Loire Valley, founded in 1989 and now managed by the fifth generation of the Breton family. The estate spans 17 hectares of vines across three appellations: Bourgueil, Chinon, and Vouvray. Catherine and Pierre are pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Loire, having converted to organic farming in 1991 and biodynamic practices in 1994. They are certified by Ecocert and Demeter. The estate has become internationally recognized as an icon of the natural wine movement. Their wines are made primarily from Cabernet Franc (known as 'Breton' in the Loire) and Chenin Blanc, with vinification using only indigenous yeasts and minimal sulfur. Their famous cuvées include 'Nuits d'Ivresse' (a no-sulfur cuvée named in homage to Jules Chauvet), 'La Dilettante,' and 'Trinch!' The estate's diverse terroirs include gravel, limestone, clay, schist, and yellow tuffeau soils.
“Pioneering natural wine estate in Bourgueil, Chinon, and Vouvray, organically and biodynamically farmed since 1991 and 1994.”
