About the Winery

Ludwig Bindernagel, also known as Lulu Vigneron, is an iconic natural wine producer in the Jura region of France. Founded in 2003 by Ludwig Bindernagel (from Bavaria) and Nathalie Eigenschenck (from Paris), the estate was born from their passion for wine. Neither had formal winemaking education prior to opening their winery. Ludwig studied viticulture remotely while working as an architect in Paris before pursuing his passion full-time. The estate, originally known as Les Chais du Vieux Bourg, is now called Lulu Vigneron. The vineyards, mostly 40 to 50 years old, are located in Arlay, Poligny, Etoile, and the legendary Château-Chalon. The estate practices organic viticulture and has been transitioning to biodynamic methods. The unique terroir features two marly layers and a calcareous stratus rich in fossilized oysters. Bindernagel is among the 14 starred winemakers of the Jura according to the Revue des Vins de France, producing highly concentrated wines from old vines using natural winemaking techniques with minimal intervention.
