About the Winery

Founded by Benedictine monks in 1109 at Boersch, near Obernai and Ottrott in Alsace. These monks are said to have introduced Pinot Noir to the region from Burgundy. Nine hundred years later, Bernard Hummel took over the estate in 1970, and today runs it with his three daughters. The 9-hectare domain is particularly renowned for its Pinot Noirs, with multiple cuvées including Rouge de Saint-Léonard aged in oak. The estate also produces Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Crémant d'Alsace. The domain has been in conversion to organic farming for several years, with an increasing portion of parcels now certified. The property also offers rural gîte accommodation and hosts festive evenings around tarte flambée in the pure tradition of Bas-Rhin hospitality.
