About the Winery

Château Gautoul is a magnificent chartreuse (a type of Carthusian monastery building) that has lived among its vines since the 17th century. The domain faces the medieval village of Puy-l'Évêque and overlooks the Lot River. The vineyard is established on the middle and upper terraces, between siliceous alluvial deposits and limestone scree. In 1992, Belgian industrialist Éric Swenden bought the estate from starred chef Alain Senderens, with its 19 hectares arranged around an 18th-century chartreuse in perfect harmony with the medieval village. A change of ownership occurred in 2021 with the arrival of the Dessay family. Visits are available by appointment for groups, and the estate welcomes individual visitors during opening hours. The property is labeled Vignobles et Découvertes.
