About the Winery

Domaine Johann Michel is a Cornas estate founded in 1939 by François Michel, one of the founders of the AOC Cornas appellation. The domaine was revived by Johann's father Jean-Luc in 1988 after a long period of leasing. Johann Michel took over in 1997 and today cultivates 5 hectares of vines in the prestigious Cornas appellation of the Northern Rhône. The estate produces powerful, concentrated Syrah wines from granite soils typical of the region. The wines are known for their supple, silky tannins and complex aromatics of blackberry, licorice, and smoked meat. The vineyards are farmed organically (though not certified), with manual harvest and careful selection of grapes.
