Château Barbanau

Aix-en-Provence area, Provence, France

About the Winery

Émile Bodin created Clos Val Bruyère in 1889. A century later, his great-granddaughter Claude and her husband Lucien inherited a few hectares of vines and acquired Château Barbanau, situated at the westernmost edge of the Côtes-de-Provence appellation at 360 meters altitude. In 2022, Barbara and Romain Tchénio left the corporate world to become winemakers. They purchased the 23-hectare estate (certified organic) and began restructuring the vineyards while building a new semi-underground winery. The estate produces wines from classic Provençal varieties including Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Rolle, expressing the freshness of the higher-altitude terroir.

A 23-hectare organic estate at 360 meters altitude on the western edge of Côtes-de-Provence, under new ownership since 2022.
