Jean-louis Loup
About the Winery
Jean-Louis Loup has been at the helm of Domaine de Bel Air since 1997, perpetuating a family tradition spanning three generations. The domain was established in 1930 by Louis Loup, and has grown to 13 hectares of vineyards in the Chinon appellation around Cravant-les-Côteaux. Since 2018, the entire vineyard has been certified organic. The domain produces wines from Cabernet Franc for reds and Roses, and Chenin Blanc for white wines. The diversity of soils, from alluvial gravelly plains to clay-limestone hillsides, allows for different cuvées ranging from fruity, easy-drinking wines to more complex, age-worthy bottlings. The domain also features the prestigious 'La Croix Boissée' parcel, recognized as an exceptional terroir within the Chinon appellation, where the domain exploits 4 hectares of this 11-hectare site. Jean-Louis Loup offers free tastings by appointment and also provides accommodation in a gîte.
