Les Béates
About the Winery
Acquired in 1996 by the Terrat and Chapoutier families, this 40-hectare domaine has been run 'solo' and biodynamically by the Terrat family since 2002. The name Béates refers to nuns sent here in the 17th century to teach and catechize children. Pierre-François Terrat, who grew up in Brazil, became a winemaker and has been guided by the Chapoutier family in biodynamic practices. Certified organic since the 1980s, the domaine is a pioneer of organic agriculture in the region and received biodynamic certification in 2023. The vines are planted between 250 and 350 meters altitude on limestone-dominant soils, producing mineral whites, fruity Roses, and powerful ageing reds in the AOP Aix-en-Provence appellation.
“A 40-hectare organic and biodynamic estate in Lambesc, pioneer of organic agriculture in Provence since the 1980s.”
