Château Citran

Château Citran, 33480 Avensan, France

About the Winery

Château Citran is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, with a history dating back to the 13th century when it was originally a fortress. The Donissan de Citran family reigned over this former Médoc seigneury from the 13th century until 1832. The present château was rebuilt between 1862 and 1864 on the site of the medieval castle, whose moats are still in perfect condition. In 1996, the Merlaut family, deeply involved in the Bordeaux wine industry, took over this magnificent estate. Today, Château Citran has 100 hectares of vines in the Haut-Médoc appellation, planted with 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The combination of traditional and state-of-the-art winemaking techniques results in an elegant and classy wine. The château's logo is a peacock, which can also be found on the estate's grounds. The estate is certified High Environmental Value level 1 and is a listed historical monument.

One of the oldest estates in the Médoc with a 13th-century fortress, now a 100-hectare Haut-Médoc property owned by the Merlaut family since 1996.
