About the Winery

Often considered the second wine of Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, created in 1902, is in reality a cru in its own right. Its vineyard, planted on very homogeneous Mindel gravel terroir, is located northwest of Saint-Julien village, while the grand clos is to the northeast. The name was inspired by the Petit Clos adjacent to the Château de Léoville, residence of the Marquis de Las Cases. The wine is produced from top terroirs of Saint-Julien that were not exclusively part of the old Domaine de Léoville cadastre, surrounded by prestigious Classified Growths. The blend is typically 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc, aged 12 months in French oak barrels.
