About the Winery

Operating since 1994 this ancient possession of the Hospitallers of Saint John, 3 km from the Abbey of Fontcaude, Jean Lacugue, an oenologist by training, has a conviction: the importance of terroir in the expression of wines. This domaine (60 hectares today) hosted in the Middle Ages the many pilgrims of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The property has Roman origins from 'La Villa Emilio' and was structured in the Middle Ages by the Hospitaller order. The soils are red and very stony with clay, schist, and sandstone. Jean Lacugue took over full responsibility in 1993 after qualifying as an oenologist in 1980. The estate produces AOC Saint-Chinian, AOC Languedoc, and vins de Pays de l'Hérault, along with Cartagène and olive oil.

A historic estate of Roman origin near Fontcaude Abbey, run by oenologist Jean Lacugue since 1994, producing Saint-Chinian on complex terroirs.
