Domaine alain Mathias
About the Winery
In 1982, Alain Mathias, a surveyor, became a winegrower and planted vines in the Yonne department, participating in the renaissance of the Épineuil vineyard. He gradually adopted organic practices and obtained certification in 2015. That same year, his son Bastien and daughter-in-law Carole, both oenologists, took over the 12.5-hectare estate in Épineuil and Chablisien. The semi-underground cellar, built in a former quarry, provides excellent thermal regulation for long aging (18 months average) in various containers including stainless steel, barrels, sandstone jars, and terracotta. A small négociant structure complements the activity since 2015. The estate produces Bourgogne Épineuil, Tonnerre, and Chablis wines.
“Founded in 1982 by Alain Mathias, this organic-certified estate covers 12.5 hectares in Épineuil and Chablisien, now led by oenologists Bastien and Carole Mathias.”
