About the Winery

Jean Manciat represents the third generation of winegrowers on his family's lands in Charnay-lès-Mâcon, a suburb near Mâcon in southern Burgundy. The domaine covers approximately 9 hectares of vineyards, with soils of clay and limestone. Jean took over the family's estate in the early 1980s and made the bold decision to leave the local cooperative to make his own wines. He replanted his vineyards with older, less-productive Chardonnay clones from Pouilly-Fuissé and trellised them in the fashion of the Côte d'Or. He abandoned tractor use and chemicals, began picking by hand, and built a small winery focused on creating artisanal wines. The wines are 50% sold directly and 50% exported. The domaine grows Chardonnay and Gamay, practicing sustainable farming. His son Quentin Manciat has joined the estate, ensuring the family's legacy continues.
