About the Winery

Philippe Clicquot, heir to bankers, textile merchants, and vineyard owners, founded his Champagne house in 1772, with the anchor as symbol and export as a key focus. His son died prematurely in 1805, and his daughter-in-law, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, then aged 27, took over the business and would go down in history as the 'Grande Dame of Champagne.' An accomplished businesswoman, she directed the house for much of the 19th century, giving it considerable growth. Today, the company owns nearly 400 hectares of vineyard, and its yellow label is known worldwide. It has been part of the LVMH group since 1987. Pinot Noir is very present in the house's cuvées. Didier Mariotti has been chef de cave since 2020.
