Natacha Chave (Aléofane)

745, av. du Vercors, 26600 Mercurol, France

About the Winery

Since establishing herself in 2004 on the lands of Mercurol, Natacha Chave has affirmed herself as a sure value in the Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph appellations. Daughter of Bernard Chave and sister of Yann Chave, she comes from a prestigious family of Rhône winemakers but chose to start her own domaine. The name 'Aléofane' comes from an imaginary island in a novel by John Macmillan Brown, where fermented drinks like wine are considered rare, diabolical, yet healing goods prescribed by medical order. Today her estate covers 12 hectares, farmed organically and biodynamically (Demeter certified). She uses indigenous yeasts, no enzymes, and the wines are unfiltered, unfined, and low in sulfites. The estate produces Crozes-Hermitage Blanc (50% Marsanne, 50% Roussanne), Crozes-Hermitage Rouge, Saint-Joseph Rouge, and Cornas.

A 12-hectare biodynamic estate in Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, founded in 2004 by Natacha Chave from the prestigious Chave winemaking family.
