About the Winery

Château de Fontcreuse is an 18th-century estate located in Cassis, Provence, at the foot of the Couronne de Charlemagne, about 20 km from Marseille. The name originates from a fountain carved in 1687 to provide running water to the château under construction. In 1922, Colonel Teed discovered Cassis, bought Fontcreuse and devoted himself entirely to viticulture. In 1987, Jean-François Brando acquired the estate, three centuries after the fountain was carved. Today the estate covers 38 hectares, 26 of which are in the Cassis appellation. The wines have been certified organic since the 2017 vintage. The Cassis appellation was the first created in 1936 and today covers just over 200 hectares, with only 12 estates benefiting from the appellation. The dominant grape varieties are Marsanne and Clairette for whites, unlike other Provence whites which are mainly made from Rolle.
