Domaine christian Barthel
About the Winery
You must travel up the Val de Villé cutting through the Vosges mountains to find this Bas-Rhin domaine, hidden in the Sonnenbach valley surrounded by wooded heights. The small vineyard cultivated by Marthe and René in the 1960s has grown with Christian and Anne-Marie into a 10-hectare property. The domaine is farmed organically and produces all Alsace grape varieties except Muscat. The local specialty is Pinot Noir 'Rouge d'Albé'. The vineyards benefit from an exceptional mountain climate at 300 meters altitude on steep slopes, mainly composed of grey schist. The wines are monitored and vinified using modern techniques to ensure they are typical, dry, and fruity.
