About the Winery

Château Bas, located in Vernègues in the heart of the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, is a historic estate built on the ruins of a Gallo-Roman site dating back to the 1st century BC, with a chapel from the 11th century and a 17th-century residence. The estate was acquired by Georges de Blanquet in the early 1970s and the family owned it for nearly 40 years. In 2020, the property was sold to Catherine and Philippe Castéja, a well-known Bordeaux wine family also owning Châteaux Batailley, Lynch-Moussas, and Trotte-Vieille. The estate covers approximately 75 hectares of vineyards, all farmed organically since 2010. The property spans 370 hectares total, including the vineyards, and produces red, white, Rose, and sparkling wines from grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Sauvignon, Rolle, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Clairette, and Bourboulenc. Château Bas is renowned for its commitment to organic farming and permaculture, and its Roman ruins are listed as a historic monument since 1840.
