Philippe Baillarguet
About the Winery
Philippe Baillarguet is the long-time cellar master of Château Ausone, one of Saint-Émilion's most legendary estates. In 2006, he seized the opportunity to acquire his own vineyard, and in 2010, Clos des Baies was born. The estate comprises 1.15 hectares of vines on beautiful clay-limestone soils in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, planted with approximately 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Philippe has worked the vines organically from the start, obtaining Ecocert certification in 2023, with plans to transition to biodynamics. The estate produces two wines in minute quantities: Clos des Baies and Face Baies. Philippe's wines are known for their lush, supple texture, polished tannins, and the precision that comes from decades of experience at one of Bordeaux's greatest châteaux.
“The cellar master of Château Ausone crafting his own organic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from 1.15 hectares.”
