About the Winery

Château du Tertre is a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Grand Cru Classé) estate in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, located in the Margaux appellation. The estate's origins trace back to the Seigneurie d'Arsac documented as early as 1143. Its name comes from the 'tertre' (hillock) on which it sits—one of the highest points in the Margaux commune. The 52-hectare vineyard has remained unchanged since 1855 and is planted with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, with vines averaging 35 years of age. The estate was acquired by Philippe Gasqueton in 1961, then by Eric and Louise Albada Jelgersma in 1995. In 1997, Eric Albada Jelgersma invested in large-scale restructuring, restoring the estate's former nobility. The property features a second wine, 'Les Hauts du Tertre.' The wines are known for their elegance, balance, and aging potential.
