Château la Haye

About the Winery

Château La Haye is one of the oldest wine estates in Saint-Estèphe, with a history dating back to 1557 when Sire Janot Bernard of Leyssac acquired the property and planted the first vines. According to legend, the château served as a hunting lodge for King Henri II and Diane de Poitiers, whose intertwined monogram H and D is engraved in the stone. The 28-hectare vineyard sits on clay-limestone and fine gravel soils typical of Saint-Estèphe. In 2012, Belgian entrepreneur Chris Cardon acquired the estate while running the Marathon du Médoc. The vineyard is planted with 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec. Certified High Environmental Value (HEV 3), the estate offers several tour options including classic, romantic, prestige and family-friendly 'Awakening of the Senses' visits.
