Château Tirecul la Gravière

About the Winery

Château Tirecul la Gravière is considered by many as the 'Rolls-Royce' of Monbazillac. In 1992, Claudie and Bruno Bilancini took over this 15-hectare estate, then in poor condition, which had once been prestigious. The vineyards cover the steep slopes of hills forming an amphitheatre, exposed to the north and east, an orientation favourable to the development of noble rot (botrytis). The estate is farmed organically and the Bilancinis pamper the Muscadelle grape despite the difficulties of its cultivation. Their sweet wines are produced from Sémillon and Muscadelle, fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 6-10 months with ageing continuing for about 2 years. The estate produces several cuvées including Andrea (dry white), Les Pins (entry-level sweet), Cuvée Château and Cuvée Madame (the prestige cuvée from painstaking berry-by-berry selection).
