Gilles Contrepois

About the Winery

Séverine and Gilles Contrepois became winemakers in 1997 in the interior Fitou, coming from Montmartre in Paris where the vines of the Butte had inspired them. Formerly an engineer and an art commerce expert, they first worked as cooperative members before creating their own cellar in 2003. They manage their approximately 11-hectare vineyard organically (certified since 2004) and follow lunar cycles for vineyard and cellar work. Since 2011, their wines have been made without any inputs. Their domain, also known as Domaine Grand Guilhem, produces Fitou red wines, Corbières whites, and also Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes Grenat. The estate works with old vines averaging 60 years on schist and calcschist soils.
