Château Lamothe-Guignard

Lamothe, 33210 Sauternes, France

About the Winery

Château Lamothe-Guignard is a Sauternes estate classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru Classé) in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate has a long history in the Sauternes appellation, located in the Graves region of Bordeaux. The vineyard benefits from the unique microclimate created by the confluence of the Garonne and Ciron rivers, which promotes the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot) essential for producing the appellation's legendary sweet wines. The estate produces rich, concentrated sweet white wines from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. In 1981, the estate was acquired by the Guignard family, who have continued to uphold the traditions of Sauternes winemaking while investing in modern techniques.
