Earl roland Schmitt
About the Winery
Domaine Roland Schmitt was founded in 1971 by Roland Schmitt, who contributed to promoting the Altenberg de Bergbieten, recognized as a Grand Cru near Strasbourg. After Roland's death in 1993, his wife Anne-Marie and their children Julien (at the cellar since 1999, head since 2007), Bruno, and Lucile continued the estate and adopted biodynamic viticulture for their 10 hectares. Julien converted the domaine to organic viticulture when he joined in 1999. The estate produces Alsace AOC, Alsace Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergbieten, and Crémant d'Alsace wines. Their complex, elegant wines with true terroir character are served in many of Alsace's top Michelin-starred restaurants.
“A 10-hectare estate in Bergbieten since 1971, with Grand Cru Altenberg and biodynamic practices.”
