Château Léoville Poyferré

38, rue St-Julien, 33250 Saint-Julien, France

About the Winery

Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the three estates born from the historic Léoville domaine in Bordeaux. Named after the Count of Poyferré, who inherited the vineyard through his wife during the estate's division, it benefits from an exceptional 80-hectare terroir spread across Saint-Julien. The vineyards feature gravel and brown pebbles near the Gironde estuary to the east, and black sands to the west. Since 1979, Didier Cuvelier and now his cousin Sara Lecompte-Cuvelier have managed the estate. The Cuvelier family, former Bordeaux wine merchants from Lille, acquired the property in 1920. The estate also includes 20 hectares of Château Moulin Riche. Château Léoville Poyferré was classified as a Second Growth (2ème Cru Classé) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The wine is a classic Saint-Julien blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, known for its elegance, power, and exceptional aging potential.

A legendary Saint-Julien Second Growth with 80 hectares of exceptional terroir, managed by the Cuvelier family since 1920.
