About the Winery

Domaine Fontanel is a six-generation family estate in Tautavel, in the Roussillon region of Southern France. Founded in 1989 by Pierre and Marie Claude Fontanel, the estate covers 20 hectares of organic vineyards between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. Since 2017, the domaine has been managed by Elodie and Matthieu Collet, who took over from Pierre Fontanel (who remains as consultant winemaker). The estate produces a diverse range of wines including red, white, Rose, sparkling, and fortified wines. Key grape varieties include Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, and Muscat. The domaine avoids synthetic fertilizers and herbicides, with low yields of less than 30 hl/ha, focusing on meticulous grape selection and traditional maceration techniques.
