Champagne Barnaut

About the Winery

A broker-presser for the great Champagne houses, married to the daughter of a vineyard owner, Edmond Barnaut decided in 1874 to produce and market his own cuvées. His descendant Philippe Secondé, an oenologist, has continued his work since 1986, representing the 5th generation. He has a significant vineyard of nearly 17 hectares in Bouzy, a village classified as Grand Cru on the southern flank of the Montagne de Reims. Barnaut was one of the first pioneers in Champagne to create his own brand outside the controlling centers of Epernay and Reims. The Grande Réserve label is still made today with two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay, with its reserve wine coming from a perpetual cuvée begun by Edmond himself and maintained through five generations. The wines are aged for at least five years before release.
