Domaine de l' Aumonier
About the Winery
Domaine de l'Aumonier was founded in 1996 by Sophie and Thierry Chardon in the Touraine appellation of the Loire Valley. Thierry, a former Paris firefighter, returned to the region where his parents were growers, and together with Sophie built the domaine from just 2 hectares inherited from Sophie's grandfather to over 47 hectares today. The domaine's name comes from Sophie's grandparents and refers to a medieval chaplain responsible for distributing alms. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter), practicing sustainable viticulture on soils of clay, limestone, and flint. They grow Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Côt, Pinot, and Chardonnay. Their wines are known for their freshness, authenticity, and terroir expression.
“A former firefighter and his wife built an organic and biodynamic estate from 2 hectares to 47 in the Loire Valley.”
