Château Boyd-Cantenac

About the Winery

Château Boyd-Cantenac is a Third Growth (Troisième Cru Classé) estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, classified in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Founded in 1754 by Jacques Boyd, an Irish merchant from Belfast, the estate has been owned by the Guillemet family since 1932. The 17-hectare vineyard is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot on gravel and sand soils. The estate produces elegant, medium-bodied wines with floral and spicy aromatics, known for their approachability and classic Margaux style. The second wine is called Jacques Boyd. Lucien Guillemet, the current owner, serves as both managing director and winemaker, making Boyd-Cantenac one of the few classified growths without an external consultant.
