Champagne Alfred Gratien

30 Rue Maurice Cerveaux, 51200 Épernay, France

About the Winery

Champagne Alfred Gratien was founded in Épernay in 1864. For four generations, the same lineage of Cellar Masters has perpetuated an artisanal know-how: rigorous selection of grapes from the best vineyards, vinification in small oak barrels, and a maximum voluntary limitation of 300,000 bottles per year. Today, Nicolas Jaeger, the Cellar Master, continues to remain faithful to the founder's philosophy. The house is one of the last 'haute-couture' Champagnes, with wines aged in 228-liter oak barrels for 6 months to preserve fruity aromas and authenticity. The vintage Champagnes are aged in bottles with natural cork stoppers. The house opens its century-old cellar and cellars dug into the chalk, 18 meters underground, where nearly a million bottles are kept. Visits are available Tuesday to Saturday at 10am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, and 4pm (high season).

Founded in 1864, one of the last 'haute-couture' Champagne houses, vinifying in small oak barrels with only 300,000 bottles produced annually.
