Château de Lascaux

Route du Brestalou, 34270 Vacquières, France

About the Winery

Château de Lascaux is a family estate in the Pic Saint-Loup appellation of Languedoc. The Cavalier family has been rooted in Vacquières since the 16th century, practicing diverse agriculture. In 1984, Jean-Benoît Cavalier took over as the 14th generation of winemakers, modernizing the grape varieties, exploring new terroirs, and constructing a new winery. Today, the 15th generation joins the 14th in continuing the family legacy. The estate covers approximately 50 hectares, producing around 12,000 cases annually. The Mediterranean climate is influenced by continental air from the Cévennes mountains, with higher rainfall than other parts of Languedoc. Significant temperature variations during ripening allow for optimal grape maturation. The deep, well-draining soils are bordered by wild garrigue and Mediterranean forests with limestone soils. The estate is certified organic and produces red, white, and Rose wines from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Marsanne, Roussanne, Vermentino, and Viognier. Open Monday to Saturday year-round.
