Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, Grand Cru Classé
About the Winery
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a Pauillac 5th Grand Cru Classé (classified in 1855), uniquely positioned as the only urban château on the banks of the river in the prestigious Pauillac appellation. After 10 years of preparation under the Renaissance project, the estate opened its doors to visitors. The 40 hectares of vineyards are spread over three large plots on gravelly soil of the Pauillac appellation, close to Mouton, Lafite, and Pontet-Canet. The vineyards are divided between Cabernet Sauvignon (63%) and Merlot (37%), with vines averaging 25 years old. Since 2004, the domain belongs to CA Grands Crus, and since 2007, all holdings are qualified for sustainable agriculture. The group emphasizes sustainable development and environmental respect. Harvests are manual with careful sorting, and aging extends from 18 to 24 months in barrels (30-40% new wood). The wine offers strong aromatic intensity with notes of liquorice and sweet spices, suitable for great aging.
“The only urban château on the banks of the river in Pauillac, a 5th Grand Cru Classé with a mosaic of terroirs representing the diversity of the appellation.”
