Overview

Východoslovenská is Slovakia's youngest official wine region, framed by the extinct volcano of Vihorlat and the rolling edge of the East Slovak lowland. The climate is warm and moderately humid, with remarkably even day-night temperatures that allow grapes to ripen slowly and evenly.

Volcanic soils around Tibava and Sobrance lend minerality to Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Silvánske zelené, while fluvial lowland sites favour Rizling vlašský, Müller-Thurgau, and the local Dievčie hrozno. Reds are led by a vivid, plastic Frankovka modrá and elegant Pinot Noir.
