Overview
Tokaj is Hungary's most celebrated wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of volcanic hills, cellars carved into rhyolite tuff, and vineyards where botrytis arrives reliably each autumn. The region's fame rests on Tokaji Aszú, the lusciously sweet wine once called the 'wine of kings, king of wines', which is made by adding individually picked noble-rotted berries to a base wine.
In recent decades, Tokaj has also become renowned for dry Furmint, a mineral white that captures the region's volcanic terroir with precision. Historic estates and a new generation of growers now farm side by side, producing Aszú, Szamorodni, late-harvest wines, and increasingly complex dry whites from Furmint and Hárslevelű.
Key Varietals
- FurmintThe signature white grape of Tokaj, capable of razor-sharp dry whites and lusciously sweet Aszú with smoky mineral depth.

- Sárga MuskotályA Muscat variety that contributes aromatic lift and orange-blossom perfume to sweet and off-dry wines.
- KövérszőlőA historic local grape revived for its rich, oily texture and role in traditional Tokaji Aszú blends.
