Thermenregion

A warm region south of Vienna known for Austria's rare native whites and full-bodied reds.

Overview

The Thermenregion lies south of Vienna, named for the thermal springs that have drawn visitors since Roman times. The warm, dry climate and varied soils create excellent conditions for both indigenous white varieties and powerful red wines.

Rotgipfler and Zierfandler are the region's unique white grapes, producing full-bodied, aromatic wines rarely found elsewhere. Pinot Noir and Sankt Laurent also thrive here, making Thermenregion a diverse and historically significant Austrian wine area.

Key Varietals

  • RotgipflerA rare Austrian white with body, spice, and tropical fruit notes.
  • ZierfandlerAn indigenous white with apricot, honey, and fresh acidity.
  • Pinot NoirA full-bodied, earthy red from Thermenregion's warm sites.
