Overview
The Strumica-Radovish wine district sits in the southeastern corner of the country, where the valleys of the Struma and Strumeshnica rivers open toward the Aegean. Vineyards lie at 224 to 380 meters on gentle slopes and plains, enjoying a continental sub-Mediterranean climate with long, warm summers and mild winters. The district is home to several large wineries as well as smaller estates focused on quality.
Alluvial and deluvial soils, mostly clay, retain enough moisture to carry vines through dry spells, while modern irrigation supports consistent crops. The district produces both juicy, approachable reds and crisp whites, with producers increasingly exploring premium oak-aged expressions alongside fresh, everyday wines.
