Rías Baixas Vineyards
Southwestern Galicia on the Atlantic coast, surrounding the Ría de Arousa and Ría de Pontevedra

Rías Baixas

Green Spain's misty coast, home to Spain's freshest and most aromatic Albariño.

Overview

Rías Baixas lies in the verdant corner of Galicia where Atlantic inlets, known as rías, cut into the coastline. The maritime climate is cool, humid, and among the wettest in Spain, with mild winters and temperate summers. Vineyards are often trained on pergolas to lift fruit above the damp ground and improve airflow.

Albariño is the undisputed star, accounting for the vast majority of plantings and producing crisp, aromatic whites with peach, citrus, and saline notes. Treixadura, Loureira, and Caiño Blanco appear in regional blends, adding floral, herbal, and textural complexity. The wines are celebrated partners for Galicia's abundant seafood.

Key Varietals

  • AlbariñoThe signature white grape, giving Rías Baixas wines their citrus, stone fruit, and sea-breeze freshness.
  • TreixaduraAn aromatic variety that adds body, white flower perfume, and texture to blends.
  • LoureiraA fragrant white grape contributing citrus blossom, herbal notes, and bright acidity.
  • Caiño BlancoA rare local variety prized for its crisp acidity, saline minerality, and aging potential.
