North Lebanon Vineyards
Northern Lebanon, encompassing the mountains around Tripoli, Batroun, and the Qannoubine Valley

North Lebanon

A rugged northern frontier where some of Lebanon's highest vineyards produce intensely fresh and concentrated mountain wines.

Overview

North Lebanon includes the dramatic coastal and inland mountains north of Beirut, including the Batroun Mountains and the Qannoubine Valley. Vineyards here reach some of the highest elevations in the northern hemisphere, with plantings above 1,800 meters in places, giving grapes exceptional acidity and slow ripening.

The region is home to forward-looking producers such as IXSIR, whose high-altitude vineyards supply fruit for structured reds and elegant whites. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot thrive on steep, sunlit terraces, while indigenous varieties such as Obeideh add local character to white blends.

Key Varietals

  • Cabernet SauvignonA structured red that builds depth and fine tannins on North Lebanon's high terraces.
  • SyrahA spicy, dark-fruited red that flourishes in the cool air and intense sunlight of the northern mountains.
  • ObeidehAn indigenous Lebanese white that gives honeyed, floral, and waxy wines with refreshing acidity.
  • MerlotA supple red that adds body and black-fruit richness to northern mountain blends.
