Overview
The Moselle Valley is the one and only wine region of the Grand Duchy, a narrow 42-kilometer ribbon of vineyards on the west bank of the Moselle River. Centered on the cantons of Grevenmacher and Remich, the vineyards rise in steep terraces from a slender river plain, a landscape shaped by the same calcareous soils that extend from the Paris Basin. Romans planted vines here millennia ago, and today the Appellation d'Origine Protégée Moselle Luxembourgeoise governs every bottle produced in the country.
White grapes dominate, led by Riesling and rounded out by Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, and the ancient Elbling. The region is also celebrated for Crémant de Luxembourg, made by the traditional method, alongside crisp still whites and delicate Pinot Noir rosés. Wine routes link the riverside villages of Remich, Schengen, and Stadtbredimus, where family estates welcome visitors to taste wines that reflect the valley's limestone terroir and gentle, sun-trapping slopes.
