Menorca

Overview

Menorca is the quieter, easternmost Balearic Island, known more for its pristine beaches and prehistoric sites than for wine. A small but dedicated band of producers is reviving viticulture under the Vino de la Tierra de Menorca label, working with native and international grapes on limestone and sandy soils. The climate is Mediterranean, moderated by sea breezes.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Monastrell are common reds, while Chardonnay, Macabeo, and Malvasía appear among the whites. The wines are typically easy-drinking and made in tiny quantities, reflecting the island's boutique scale and focus on sustainable, low-intervention farming.
