Overview
Meknès sits at the heart of Moroccan winemaking, producing more than half of the nation's wine from vineyards spread across the Saïss Plateau and the foothills of the Middle Atlas. Elevations of 500 to 700 meters, generous sunshine, and cooling Atlantic influence create a relatively balanced climate with warm days and chilly nights. The region is home to Morocco's first Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, Coteaux de l'Atlas 1er Cru, as well as the historic AOGs of Guerrouane and Beni M'Tir.
Pioneering estates such as Les Celliers de Meknès, Château Roslane, and Domaine de la Zouina have defined modern Moroccan wine here, blending French expertise with local terroir. The region excels at structured red blends and elegant whites, with old-vine Carignan and Cinsault supporting a newer wave of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Grenache plantings.
