Overview

Marche is one of Italy's most picturesque and pleasantly undiscovered regions, a landscape of gentle hills, Renaissance hill towns, and a long, sandy Adriatic coastline. It offers a little of everything - mountain, hill, and sea - with a winemaking tradition that is quietly producing some of Italy's most exciting wines.

The region's white wine star is Verdicchio, one of Italy's great indigenous whites. Grown primarily around the castles of Jesi and Matelica, Verdicchio delivers crisp, mineral-driven wines with almond, citrus, and herbal notes. The best examples age beautifully, developing honeyed, nutty complexity over decades.

On the red wine front, Marche produces bold, structured Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno from Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The tiny appellation of Lacrima di Morro d'Alba offers something entirely unique - a fragrant, almost perfumed red with violet and berry aromatics unlike any other wine in Italy.
