Located on the fertile flood plain of the Bremer River between Lake Alexandrina and the Mount Lofty Ranges, the area has been producing grapes since the 1850s. Bleasdale, founded by Frank Potts in 1850, remains Australia's second-oldest family-owned winery and the spiritual anchor of a region built on hard work and deep agricultural roots.

The region's defining feature is its unique natural irrigation system. For generations, winter floodwaters from the Bremer River were diverted across the vineyards, depositing rich silts and nourishing the deep alluvial soils. Today, this tradition continues in managed form, giving Langhorne Creek wines their hallmark richness and generosity. While much of the region's production historically supplied major labels, a growing number of estate-focused producers are drawing attention to Langhorne Creek's quality in its own right.

Langhorne Creek excels at producing plush, approachable reds with soft tannins and immediate appeal. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz dominate, but the region has also built a strong reputation for Malbec - Bleasdale has grown the variety since the late 1800s - and vibrant Verdelho.
