Komarna

Overview

Komarna is Croatia's youngest wine appellation, officially designated in 2013, located on the Dalmatian coast between Split and Dubrovnik near the village of Klek. The appellation requires all vineyards to be certified organic, making it unique in Croatia. Steep limestone slopes rise above the Adriatic, creating conditions similar to nearby Pelješac.

Rizman, Terra Madre, and Volarević are the leading producers, focusing on Plavac Mali reds and Pošip whites. The region's combination of abundant sunshine, cooling sea breezes, and organic farming has quickly established Komarna as a model for sustainable Dalmatian viticulture.
