Kamptal

A cool valley north of the Danube, famed for world-class Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.

Overview

Kamptal lies north of the Danube, surrounding the Kamp River as it winds through rolling hills and steep terraces. The region's mix of loess, gravel, and primary rock soils, combined with a cool continental climate, produces wines of remarkable finesse and aging potential.

Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are the flagship grapes, with the latter particularly prized from sites around Langenlois and the Heiligenstein vineyard. Kamptal wines are known for their vibrant acidity, layered aromatics, and clear sense of place.

Key Varietals

  • Grüner VeltlinerKamptal's signature white, peppery, mineral, and capable of long aging.
  • RieslingA precise, aromatic white with citrus, stone fruit, and stony minerality.
  • Pinot NoirA delicate, earthy red from the region's cooler sites.
